Acunity's People-Centred Training approach works well for Red Dezign
23/09/2004

The opportunity
Harmeet Sembi, former head
designer for Bradford-based Red Dezign, recognised that as a small, busy team with
a growing portfolio of clients, it was essential that any course
properly met Harmeet's needs. “I was a bit sceptical because I
thought it might be like going back to school,” he says. “However,
it wasn't like that at all. The Acunity trainer, Simon Atherley
was excellent - he helped me to identify my needs and my
potential uses of Illustrator, so it was very practical and tailored
to the needs of the individual. I've kept in contact with him since
the course and he has given me fantastic support.”
The Outcome
For Harmeet, the course has not only
improved his practical skills but also increased his confidence: “I
feel like a better designer now that I know my way around Illustrator.
I'm more productive and there's not much I can't do in relation
to print. I really feel I've mastered it.”
The Acunity Approach
Acunity's tailored approach suited Red
Dezign well. “When we were first
approached to provide the Photoshop Illustrator training to Red
Dezign, we went out to their studio to meet the team. This enabled
us to find out exactly what they were working on, the sort of clients
they have and the type of products they wanted to offer. We adapted
the course to enable Red Dezign to produce the kind of intricate,
complex eastern designs that some of their clients were looking
for,” says Simon Atherley, MD. “Training Red Dezign has been a pleasure because
they are very keen to learn and absorb new knowledge, skills and
techniques.”
Acunity and nti West Yorkshire
Acunity delivered
around 30 learning outcomes under Phase 1 of the WDP. “We find
the NTI's strategic approach to workforce development in the Digital
and Creative Industries fits really well with our highly personalised
and tactical delivery,” says Simon Atherley
. “What makes the partnership effective is the very practical approach
that the NTI have taken towards implementation, and the recognition
that private suppliers such as Acunity have a key role to play.
The partnership we have with the NTI is, we believe, exactly what
is needed if West Yorkshire is to seriously compete on a national
and even international stage.”
