Coaching for Success

10 March 2009

In times of recession, great change is necessary to survive the impact of the downturn in the economy. As a senior manager, the pressure is never greater than at these times, and whilst everyone looks to you for support, leadership and guidance to get them through troubled times, who is there to support you?

Yes, you can always fall back on family friends and close colleagues, but you may benefit more from professional, confidential coaching and mentoring to get you through.

Acunity was recently approached to do just that for the head of department in one of our larger clients, and we specifically recruited a specialist in People and Change Management with a background in counselling and care to help.

Six sessions of coaching were provided, each one carefully designed to tackle pressing issues, identify solutions and to set goals and action points for the manager concerned. Areas such as leadership style, people management, time management, communications and meeting tactics were all covered in the 1.5 hour sessions.

One of the measures of success in coaching is what people say about the recipient of the sessions. In this case, a positive change in leadership style and approach was noted by key staff members, and as a result we received more enquiries for coaching support within the organisation.

Coaching is not for everyone, but the right intervention at the right time can bring tangible benefits to managers and organisations alike.
